June 10th - 12th

Well, as luck would have it I was on the winning team again this year. Had a great time and sold a saddle and some gear. Look for details of next year's doings as I may be conducting a ranch roping clinic as part of the weekend as well as more roping competitions on the weekend.

"Beginning Ranch Roping" Clinic- Inexperienced ropers welcome. Come learn the vaquero traditions of the long rope and quiet, humane cattle work. Sponsored by Rising Ranch in Avonmore, PA. Visit this link for details. July 10th - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

We had 10 participants and it went real well. Folks left me with some great evaluation comments and since it was indoors, noone baked their brains out in our unusually hot and humid weather. Ragean and Clayton are looking to have an Intermediate Ranch Roping Clinic, so stay tuned.

Ranch Roping Demonstration at the Derry Agricultural Fair in New Derry, PA.

Bob will be demonstrating the vaquero traditions of authentic, working ranch style roping for humane restraint of cattle. Bob will show how a man and horse can effectively catch, restrain and doctor cattle in a low-stress manner.

July 14th 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Well, sometimes things do not go as planned. Don't ever rely on someone else to put up panels to keep you demo cattle in. My demo got spoiled by calves getting out of the arena cause I relied on someone else to secure the gate panels alongside the stock trailer that hauled in the cattle. It funny in retrospect but not really at the time. Oh well...
An "Introduction to Ranch Roping" Clinic hosted by the PNHA. Beginners and  inexperienced ropers welcome.  August 6th - 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Circle D Arena in Dime, PA. Camp trailer hookups are available for $5.00. Check this link for more details.
Kid's Cow Camp - The Saddle Tramps (a cowboy re-enactors group I belong to) will be holding their annual overnight kid's camp. Last year was a lot of fun, this one will be too. We'll have campfire cooking, cowboy sing along, knot tying and braiding, dummy roping and plenty of real roping the next morning. August 12 - 13 at Captain Yohe's Ranch

Roping and laying down cattle for vaccinating, worming and castrating. What could be more fun?

West Virginia "West Fest" -

Cowboy music and poetry festival, not too far from Morgantown, WV. The Saddle Tramps Cowboy Re-enactors Club will be there demonstrating old time ranch roping and cattle working skills.

Sept. 10th and 11th - Grafton, WV.

Over 200 elementary school children got to watch the traditional cowboy/buckaroo ways of handling cattle. We laid down some pretty large (600 - 750 lbs.) played out corrientes and got a big round of applause for our efforts. Showed them the humane way of roping and downing cattle. Had a good ol' pickin' and a grinnin' jam session later that night. Picture folks dressed up as cowboys, indians and trappers all singing bluegrass, country and old-time folk... a real blast. Roped a whole bunch on Saturday too. Think PB was ready to roll out by the time we left.

"Intermediate Ranch Roping Clinic" with Bob Sagely

Designed to build on the skills learned in the "Introduction to Ranch Roping Clinic". We will heel rope live cattle using breakaway hondas and those that are ready will head rope and track cattle with the breakaway. Must have completed the Intro Clinic or get express permission from Bob because of previous roping experience.

Sept 24th - 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at the Rising Ranch in Avonmore, PA. Click here for more details.

A successful, albeit small, clinic. Changed the curriculum mid-stream and instead of just breakaway heeling we put the regular hondas back on our ropes and laid a few down in the afternoon. Everyone got in plenty of heading and heeling, learned a little ground crew working, no horses, cattle or people hurt (not even a rope burn)... the kind of experience I try to provide in all my clinics.

Fall Works at the Gottslieg's. Time to brand up the summer crop and worm 'em all for winter. October ? - They need to set a date and I hope I can make it. Not much looking like it at this point though.
2nd Annual PNHA Horseman's Gathering - Natural horsemanship get-together allowing participant's to showcase their horse and horsemanship in a low key, supportive and educational setting. A Saturday night catered "BBQ". Ridin' good horses and eatin' good food - what more do you want? Saturday, Oct. 9 and Sunday Oct. 10 - Circle D Arena in Dime, PA. Horseman's Obstacle Course (Saturday) and Horseman's Versatility classes (Sunday). Groundwork, cart work and in the saddle, just do it "naturally" and have a ball. Check this link for more details and directions to the fandango: PNHA
"Brave Horseman  ~ Brave Horse Weekend" with Patrick King and Bob Sagely - Bob and Patrick will be combining their expertise for a weekend of fun and valuable instruction. Patrick's "Calm and Brave Horse Clinic" and Bob's "Introduction to Ranch Roping" will help you to improve your horsemanship skills and expand your relationship with your horse. Come challenge yourself and your horse with new and exciting activities. October 22nd and 23rd - 10:00 am - 5:00 pm each day. Hosted by Carrie and Jim Ferrington of C & J Ranch in Avonmore, PA. Click here for more details. Participate in one, or the other, or both. Discounts for two day participants and PNHA members.
SaddleTramps Annual Ranch Rodeo - Season ending competition for the "Top Hand" award. Also the final cow works for the Captain's cattle. We'll be branding, worming and castrating cattle after the boys compete for the buckle. Saturday and Sunday, October 29 & 30, rain or shine. Not usually a spectator event but if you are interested in how cattle were handled in the old days, and are still handled at various locales even today. come on out and watch the action.
