"Hosting a Sage Horsemanship Clinic"

Contact-
Email me at
sagehorseman to discuss dates and particulars. Clinic season for three and four day affairs will begin again May 1, 2009. One and two day (week-ends only) clinics are possible before that date.  Let's talk details.

Costs for Clinics -
I have a variety of fees and expenses for the various clinics I offer. Total package will depend on topic(s) and number of days. I charge a minimum speaking appearance fee of $400/day plus expenses. Participation clinics/Participant fees are based on clinic length and type but a minimum of $1000.00 is required. These fees do not include possible travel, food and lodging expenses that must be paid. As host/sponsor you can decide what a minimum participant number might be so long as my minimum appearance fee is met. My total clinic fee is based on total numbers and would likely exceed the minimum appearance fee. I reserve the right to cap participation numbers in order to maintain a high degree of safety and assure enough individual attention. Please contact me directly through email or by phone to discuss the clinic you wish to host/sponsor.

I require a $300.00, non-refundable date reservation fee. My expenses are in addition to clinic fees due me and will be estimated as closely as possible prior to the signing of a contract for services. Actual costs for travel, per diem lodging and meals will be billed at the beginning day of the clinic and payment for these expenses is expected from the host/sponsor on the last day of the clinic. All clinic fees due to Bob will be paid in full prior to the start of the first day of the clinic.

Host Compensation -
As the host/sponsor, you decide on the actual participant and auditor fees you will charge for the clinic. All monies collected in excess of those due me to cover my clinic/participant fees and expenses are for the benefit of the host/sponsor. Hosting/sponsoring (paying minimum appearance or clinic fees) entitles host/sponsor to one free participant slot. If a maximum enrollment is set and met it entitles host/sponsor to an additional free slot.

Video and Audio Taping -
Host/sponsor, participants and auditors will not be allowed to videotape or audiotape clinic proceedings. Still photographs are allowed. Bob reserves the right to videotape clinic activities and to use the tape for promotional or commercial purposes.

Concessions, Vendors and Amenities -
If you wish to offer a concession for refreshments all profits from that would be retained by you, the host/sponsor. I reserve the right to promote and sell equipment, videos or any other items at the clinic. Any vendors invited by host to sell or promote merchandise or services at the clinic must be approved by me. Host/sponsor is solely responsible for providing for personal hygiene/restroom facilities and meeting all state and local ordinances for having an event of this kind.

Advertising -
As a clinic host you are expected to locally promote and advertise the clinic in order to maximize attendance. I will do the same as well as posting the event on my website calendar. Host/sponsor can choose any advertising venue they wish but will bear any advertising costs incurred. Information flyer templates for local circulation and posting are available upon request.

Registration -
As host/sponsor you will handle clinic registrations and provide prior notice that liability releases must be signed by all participants. Any questions you cannot answer can certainly be forwarded to me. If potential participants exceed maximums for a clinic, a "waiting list" should be kept in case of cancellations. Registered participants who cancel within seven (7) days of the clinic will forfeit their fees unless another participant is willing to take their place or the event is cancelled by the host/sponsor. In the event of a cancellation by the host, for any reason, the non-refundable reservation fee will be forfeit and kept by Bob Sagely. Registration fees should be refunded to participants who pre-enroll in the event of such a cancellation by the host.

Facility-
You should have a facility that can handle the number of horses and riders you expect to attend, as well as room for parking their rigs. Horse facilities should include an enclosed (covered is nice but optional; risky if you live where it rains alot) riding arena and a round pen. Portable round pens are fine, can be located within a larger riding arena and can often be rented or "borrowed" in exchange for promotion of the product during the clinic. The arena should be relatively free of rocks and have good footing, sound fencing and easily workable and secure gates. Clinics where cattle are involved will have the facilities to safely handle and contain the cattle. You should be able to assist participants in providing temporary stabling, or directing them to such locally, for their animals if the clinic is more than a one day affair. Auditor seating is optional, tell 'em if they need to bring lawn chairs.

Insurance and Liability Releases-
In this day and age of frivolous litigation and an unwillingness of some to accept personal responsibility for their decision to engage in an activity, insurance coverage is a necessity when hosting an activity involving horses and people. If you become a host, I require you to take out an event policy for the clinic, or an event rider to your existing policy, to cover the clinic and my appearance as the clinician at your facility. If you cannot do so, I will need to provide my own coverage. This will add to the cost I charge for the clinic, raising the minimum appearance fees, deposits and participant fees. Proof of coverage through your carrier must be provided before a firm price is quoted and a contract for clinic services is signed by me. Seek your insurance through a reputable carrier who specializes in equine event underwriting.

Horsemanship and its practice is inherently and potentially a harmful and/or deadly activity. No one can guarantee that a horse will not harm a participant - no one can guarantee that a horse will not be harmed. My years of experience and my personal safety record around horses speaks to the skills I possess and exercise when I am around horses and teaching people. At all times I will endeavor to speak to the safety issues involved in the activities at my clinics and encourage participants to consider their own confidence and ability before attempting any of the exercises I teach. But - THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES ABOUT SAFETY! Participants should wear helmets and use safe equipment and apparel, including helmets, as appropriate to the clinic activities. I reserve the right to excuse any participant, without refund of their fees, if they will not or cannot follow my directions or have what I consider to be unsafe equipment, dress or attitudes. Auditors watch at their own risk and I reserve the right to have anyone behaving in an unsafe manner removed from the clinic site.

A Sage Horsemanship release of liability form will be provided for all registered participants and auditors to sign before taking part in, or watching, the clinic. Liability releases will be signed by all in attendance, including the host/sponsor. These will be provided by Bob Sagely for liability purposes with regard to himself and Sage Horsemanship. Anyone not willing to sign these waivers will not be allowed to participate or to audit and no refund will be given on any monies paid as of the commencement of a clinic for withholding signature. It is suggested that a separate liability release be enacted by the host for their own protection.
