A fixed-blade, quick-draw, sheath knife is a tool that no horseman or horsewoman should be without. These are friction held in the sheath but instantly available without fumbling with a tie, snap or strap. Sage Saddlery makes several styles of sheaths for the knives we sell. We will also make you a custom sheath for your own special knife.
Fixed loop style sheaths are available but the reversible belt loop style allows knife to be worn with handle forward or backward, up or down guard, on the left or right of your person or even behind you (sob style or small of the back). Knife sits parallel to belt on this style to keep sheath from marking up your saddle or fouling your catch rope easily.
Pancake style sheaths are also available. These are not reversible though they can be worn handle forward on one side and handle back for a rearward draw on the other side. Left or right hand cross draw (forward) can also be worn sob with the understanding that it will draw out with the opposite hand. For instance, a right hand cross draw will draw forward but if worn sob must be drawn with the left hand out to the left. Be sure you know what you want when ordering this style sheat
The smaller knives are from Frost Cutlery with 440 stainless steel blade in the drop-point style for a long, rope cutting stroke. Comes sharpened and ready to bail you out of a tight spot or just to whittle with during the noon break. Bone handles have been colored and are brass pinned to a full tang blade with brass bolster finger grip and brass butt plate. Overall length is 5 3/4" with an approximate 2 1/2" blade. Very nice, compact knives, very sharp in high polish, never rust stainless steel. These are not a domestic made knife but are carrying a made in china mark. I have used the same one for over two years now and am very happy with its ability to take and hold an edge.
The larger knives are also not a domestic deal and in fact are Pakistani, which used to mean a very poor blade. Seems free trade must be benefitting their bladesmithing as these full tang knives are stainless steel, take a nice, sharp edge and are nicely made. The handles are pakawood and brass pinned. Drop point blade with an overall length of about 8" and a blade of not quite 4". These are solid utility quality knives that will stand hard use and be inexpensive enough that you won't mind using it hard.
Colors can be requested and placed in any sheath style if the color is in stock. Not all colors shown are available at all times. Choose from a variety of sheath styles or design your own custom sheath and I will build it for you. Prices below reflect sheath and knives pictured, custom sheath design prices will vary. Send me your design and I will quote you a price. Also custom sheaths can be built for your special knife.
